Want a cheap Volvo? We're kinda stranded now, any cash offer or decent trade will probably be accepted. I hate seeing my Volvo go but things happen sometimes.

are you guys stranded? Why in holy hell would an old red block need a head is my question (that wouldnt wait till you got home at least). Wish I was closer

Sorry to hear that. I was gonna make a joke about giving you a half eaten Twinkie and some Taco Bell but it didn't seem appropriate and I didn't want to seem like I was insulting your ride.

Damn, if:
A: I still lived in Alabama or Tennessee
and
B: I didn't already have three Volvos...
then
C: I would buy that car in a heartbeat.
However, Pull-A-Part could sell you a head for less than $100, and it's not /that/ terrible a job to do, from my recollection. TBH, if I were still in the South, I'd more than likely offer to tow it to Florida with my ever-faithful 740, so you could fix it on your own time.

This, too... What's it doing? I've only had a redblock strand me twice, in several hundred thousand miles of redblock driving... Once, when the 20 year old timing belt snapped on my first 740, and once when the power stage on my current 740 failed, without having a backup in the car.

All the coolant decided to go bye bye in hill country.

It apparently slowly ate all its coolant over the last two days and my temp gauge doesn't work. Now it's knocking like a bitch and can't even make it up hills. Tried cranking on the head studs a bit more and it didn't help anything.

Yeah... I could pull a whole motor pretty cheap. But no ride, and needing to be back on the road in like 4 hours is putting a damper on epic fixes.

no, joking is highly encouraged. We found an 84 5 series bmw I think we're gonna buy and drive home.

yeah that sucks. got to make sure those gauges work before you go road tripping in an old car. You need all the info you can get. Guess you learned that the hard way. Just too damn far away for me to help. Could do a head swap in a matter of a few hours unless you borked the bottom end too. Which is unusual in a red block, but not impossible.

lol my own experiences were also with a power stage as well. My 2.1l 242 almost stranded my by locking up the a/c compressor too, but I banged it through with a hammer and made it 100 miles home

Well if you were 2 hours north, I could've pointed you in the direction of ours, since it's probably getting scrapped after all.

I'm driving back up next weekend to get it with a trailer I think... I could totally use a spare drivetrain...

I'm not quite sure what we are going to do with it, because my Mom now wants to keep it lol.
